All media is currently filled with election buzz. Web, TV, FB, Twitter, Radio…
One thing I know from twenty years in ministry. God’s people love to get wrapped up in the fight.
This has always been curious to me. You see, Jesus never talked about overthrowing the government. He did not gather support for any earthly political party or world leader. As a child He was hidden from Herod. Later as an adult He did not speak badly of the Roman leaders. He, in fact laid His life down in a particularly humiliating form of capital punishment, that was both government approved and readily used. This was a much more corrupt political climate than ours (total understatement). The Pharisees at times were concerned Jesus was making things worse for them politically and the truth is – He was. Because He did not care about the powers of this world.
There is, after all, another election…
“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He chose for His inheritance.” Psalm 33:12
The passage continues powerfully, please read this…
“From heaven the LORD looks down and sees all mankind;
from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth–
he who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.
No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.
A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.
But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him,
on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine.” Psalm 33:13-19
As we arrive at the polling booth this year to vote, know the really important election is NOT who rules in our country or any other for that matter. The real election is up to God.
On the last day, only God’s elect will be saved:
“And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other”
Matthew 24:31, Mark 13:27
“He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful” Revelation 17:14
Power and control get flipped upside down when the true King of the universe says He ‘elects’ us in His voting booth!
Unlike this imperfect place where imperfect people elect imperfect people to govern… imperfectly. Our perfect and holy God reassures us, He will make the right choices and take care of His constituents. He isn’t controlled by money, corruption or wooing any people groups.
He IS GOD!
Have you heard Him call you? Have you responded by accepting Christ as your savior and Lord?
That’s the real election to get ready for.
It’s not our election, it’s His.
Vote for me Lord in 2012.
Let’s GO!
