Santa – Don’t Go!

Luke 11:11-13
“What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?”

“A little boy ran to the kitchen with a big box in his hand and breathlessly told his mother, “We’d better tell Santa Claus to forget about the train set I ordered. I just found one on the top shelf of Dad’s closet.”

When I was a kid, I can remember seeing presents marked “Santa” under our tree. The handwriting on the tagsChris_Christmas looked just like my Dad’s. As an adult with two kids I know why my dad loved Christmas so much and why he always wanted to be our Santa.

I love giving my kids things that make them smile. I want them to know there is someone plotting to give them gifts all year long. Someone who cares and knows them. A Father who loves them and would never miss Christmas!

I know some folks don’t believe in Santa, but I do. Santa is every good father at Christmas who knows how to give his children good gifts.

Kiddos_xmasAs I plan give my kid’s good gifts, I am even more aware of the wonderful gifts the Father has given us.

Through accepting Jesus as Lord and repenting of our sin we become God’s children. The Father then gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit. His Spirit, comforts, teaches and directs. The Spirit also helps us to understand the Bible when we read it. What a wonderful gift the Bible is. But that’s not all, we also gain the ability to pray through the Spirit and are brought together in community to worship the Lord. We even gain spiritual gifts and through them our lives become more fruitful and rich.

When we accept the gift of salvation, we find something better than a train set on the top shelf.

Jesus said, “I have come to give you life and life more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

The Father knows how to give good gifts and He wants you to have the presence and power of the Holy Spirit in your life.

You don’t need to wait until next Christmas to open the gift.
You may already have it.

Merry Christmas, all year long!
