Stormy Seas

Psalm 61:1-4
“God, hear my cry; pay attention to my prayer.
I call to You from the ends of the earth
when my heart is without strength.
Lead me to a rock that is high above me,
for You have been a refuge for me,
a strong tower in the face of the enemy.
I will live in Your tent forever
and take refuge under the shelter of Your wings.”

lifeboatDuring a hurricane a few years ago I saw a news report that highlighted a rescue device used on many of the massive oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. They are called lifeboat capsules. The capsules can be utilized in case of a fire, hurricane or other disastrous situation.

They look like a long bullet-shaped bus without tires. Rig workers scramble aboard and strap themselves into their seats. When the entry port is shut, the vehicle is released away from the rig. The seat belts protect the occupants from impact when it hits the water. The capsule then bobs along in the sea until rescue workers arrive to pick it up.

Although this is a relatively inexpensive safety device, some rigs were not equipped with them.

In this same way there are people that are not equipped to handle life’s emergencies.

Romans 8:37-39 reminds us of the safety we can have if we are strapped into Jesus.

“No, in all these things we are more than victorious
through Him who loved us.
For I am persuaded that not even death or life, angels or rulers,
things present or things to come, hostile powers,
height or depth, or any other created thing
will have the power to separate us
from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord!”

Are you in an unexpected storm today?jesus-beach

Rest assured nothing can harm those who have turned to Jesus and repented of their sin.
No matter how fierce the seas become, Jesus saves.
